What microns and filtration grade mean
On a filter element card you see mcr (microns). That is “mesh” fineness. This page teaches you to use it. Basics: how to choose a filter.
What the number means
25 mcr catches coarser particles than 5 mcr. Smaller number = finer filter. It does not say “removes chlorine” or “removes limescale” — only particle size in mechanics (string/fibre).
| Element | mcr | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| FA Mignon 25 mcr | 25 | Coarser protection, less often “blocks” at once |
| FA Mignon 10 mcr / FA SX 10 mcr | 10 | Finer mechanics |
| FA Mignon 5 mcr / FA SX 5 mcr | 5 | Finer; on dirty water — more frequent change |
| CPP SX 25 mcr / CPP SX 10 mcr | 25 / 10 | Fibre type — read the card |
Why “5 mcr for everyone” is a bad idea
If the water has a lot of rust/grit, 5 mcr will clog very quickly and pressure will drop. Often start with 25 or 10, then — if needed — go finer. A two-stage scheme (coarse → fine) is better than one “extremely fine”.
