How to change a water filter cartridge
A filter without cartridge changes becomes a dirt collector. This page is for a typical housing with a replaceable element (DP 10 MONO, Senior Plus, Mignon Plus). Basics: how to choose a filter.
When to change
- Per manufacturer interval (often months, not years) — see the card.
- If pressure has dropped and aerators are clean.
- If the element looks brown/black.
Steps
- Shut off water before the filter; open the nearest tap to relieve pressure.
- Hold a bucket — there will be water in the housing.
- Unscrew the bowl with the key (often included).
- Remove the old element; wash the bowl (no aggressive chemicals if the manufacturer forbids them).
- Check the O-ring — if dry/cracked, replace it.
- Insert the new element in the correct direction (arrow/label).
- Tighten the bowl; open water slowly; check for leaks.
- Run water 1–2 minutes to flush carbon dust / fibres (if the type requires it).
