Mechanical or cartridge filter — what is the difference
In the shop “filter” can mean a housing, a cartridge or a kit. This page sorts the terms so you do not buy the wrong one. Basics: how to choose a water filter.
Housing + element (typical home scheme)
The housing (DP 10 MONO, Senior Plus, Mignon Plus) holds a replaceable element (25 mcr, 10 mcr). Plus: change only the cartridge; you can change micron grade. Minus: need space and remember service.
“Cartridge” in everyday language
People call that the element itself or a whole block. On the card read: are you buying a housing, an element, or a kit. A Dosal-type block for a washing machine (Atlas Dosal) is not the same as a 10″ mechanical unit on the inlet.
When to take which
| Goal | Better choice |
|---|---|
| Protect mixers/boiler from grit | Housing + mechanical element |
| Change fineness by season | Same housing, different element |
| Local washing-machine protection | Special dispenser per card |
