How to choose a heating and circulation pump

How to choose a heating and circulation pump

Heating and water pumps covers circulation, water-supply and other types. If you choose by “biggest W”, you risk buying a JET where you needed Evosta/PICO. Choice starts with the job.

When you need circulation · flow and head · how to size power.

Circulation for heating

It moves the heat carrier around the radiator circuit. Examples: DAB Evosta 2 40-70/130 DN15, Evosta 2 DN25, Evosta 2 180 DN25, Evosta 2 SAN, Wilo Atmos PICO 25/1-4, PICO 25/1-6, DUCA GEX-C 25-80-130.

Radiators nearby: radiator · valves.

Water supply / JET

DAB JET 82 M — water delivery, not a radiator pump. Do not confuse by the word “pump”.

Connections

Unions/valves are often separate — e.g. Giacomini 1½×1″. DN from the card and the old pump label.

Typical mistakes

  • JET in the heating circuit.
  • “Bigger pump with reserve” without hydraulics — noise.
  • Forgetting DN and installation length (130/180).

Short path

  1. Circulation or water supply?
  2. DN and installation length.
  3. Flow/head from the project or the old label.
  4. 2–3 cards (Evosta / PICO).

FAQ

Can I take a “stronger” PICO?

Only if the system needs it. PICO 1-6 is not automatically better than PICO 1-4 on a small circuit.
