Cable marking in the board: terminals, CAB 3, Zack and warning plates
In a board that another electrician opens a year later, marking is safety. LBN 261-15 does not specify Phoenix or Legrand. P.53 requires drawings; p.55 certified supervision. Our recommendation (not an LBN clause): each group has the same code on the device, on the N/PE bar and on the outgoing conductor.
This how-to is about what each marker is for and how it matches terminal pitch. No live work. Ratings: terminals and busbars.
| What you mark | What fits | Do not mix |
|---|---|---|
| DIN terminal legend | Zack strip or WMB card vs terminal width | A cable sleeve stuck on the terminal cover |
| The conductor at the terminal | CAB 3 / Viking 3 ring from the Ø or mm² range on the card | A 5 mm terminal strip on 10 mm² cable “because it says 1” |
| A thick outgoing cable | WMTB / WKM with ties and an Ø range | A CAB 3 1.5 mm² ring |
| A hazardous terminal | Yellow/black lightning plate | A number strip “so it shows” |
Phoenix ZB 5 1…10 — 10 sections, 1–10, white, 5.2 mm terminal width. Phoenix ZBF 5 1…10 — flat Zack, snap-on, 5 mm. 5.2 mm is not “almost 5 mm”. WAGO 793-5566 — WMB card 1…50 (2×), stretchable 5–5.2 mm, snap-on — WAGO TOPJOB, not a Phoenix ZB substitute.
Legrand CAB 3 “1” — 6 mm series, number 1. Legrand Viking 3 5 mm white. Legrand 039598 felt pen for a blank Viking field. CAB 3 “6 mm” and “1.5 mm²” are different series. Snap the ring onto the insulation, readable from the service side; one code = one group. Letter sets (C, L, N, PE) are other SKUs.
Weidmüller WKM 7–115 mm, 43×18 mm, ties, halogen-free. Phoenix WMTB is a 1700-label plotter roll (THERMOMARK on the card), not a pocket pack for a flat. Phoenix WS UT 35 yellow/black lightning, plug-in for UT 35 — not a group number.
Check pitch mm, conductor Ø/mm², number range 1–10 vs 11–20, and that the code matches the BOM (bill of materials). Cable marking. Terminals: terminals. Chassis: DIN rail and accessories.
