How to choose a WC: floor, wall-hung and rimless
A toilet is the last thing you want to “guess” from a pretty picture. The wrong mounting type means a new frame in the wall, a wrong outlet to the stack or a pan that does not fit the niche. This guide teaches how to choose a WC step by step — then look at concrete models in the inventars.lv range.
Renovation basics: plumbing guide. Type comparison: wall-hung or floor. Flush/rimless: flush.
Start with mounting, not design
- Wall-hung or floor-standing? Wall-hung needs an installation frame/cistern in the wall. Floor — often a faster swap in a typical renovation.
- Where does the drainage go? Distance to the stack, outlet height/direction. Photograph the existing one.
- What is already in the wall? If a frame is already there, the pan must match the frame standard and cistern plate.
Type map with examples
| Type | When | Range example |
|---|---|---|
| Wall-hung, rimless | New bathroom, easier floor cleaning | Jika Mila rimless, Ideal Standard i.life E, Villeroy & Boch Tivo |
| Floor-standing | Fast swap without a frame project | Jika Mila floor |
| With bidet / hygiene function | When you need more than a “normal” flush | Geberit Aquaclean Alba, Grohe Sensia |
Rimless and bidet — not the same
Rimless simplifies cleaning (no classic rim channel). Bidet function / shower-toilet is a separate hygiene option with electricity/water connections — read the card and mounting requirements. More: flush guide.
What to complete alongside
Typical mistakes
- Buying a wall-hung pan when there is (and will be) no frame in the wall.
- Ignoring distance to the stack — “almost fits” ends with an eccentric and smell.
- Mixing rimless with “automatically bidet”.
- Forgetting seat type and kit on the card.
Short path to buying
- Determine mounting type — comparison.
- Read frame/cistern and outlet data.
- Choose 2–3 cards (e.g. Mila rimless vs Mila floor).
- Check kit and flush.
FAQ
Does rimless “flush worse”?
Modern rimless models are designed for flush — read manufacturer data, not forum myths.
Do I need a pro for wall-hung WC?
Frame + waterproofing + precise depth — often yes. You must not “bolt on” a pan without a frame project.
