Three typical scenarios
Headlamp — both hands busy
A headlamp is for when the job needs both hands — assembly, inspection, tight spaces. The light follows your eyes and you do not have to hold a torch.
Work light — aim and move
A work light is for when you want to bring the beam close, place it on a surface or aim it with your hand. It works well for close, detailed work where a headlamp may cast the wrong shadows.
Flood light — a larger area
A flood light fills a larger zone — a workshop, an entrance, an outdoor area — but for small, precise work it is often too wide.
