Cable trunking and conduit
Trunking and conduit are mechanical protection and a route, not “any yellow plastic”. This range has Hager LF trunking in millimetres and Gewiss conduit accessories. We have no published installation power cable (NYM, CYKY, MMJ) — so there is no cable selection table and no second cross-section calculator. LBN 261-15 point 17: equipment must withstand site conditions. Fill factor and heating follow applicable standards (HD 60364-5-52 is on the LVS list) — we do not turn that into a calculator. Choosing an MCB: B, C, D, In and Icn
A miniature circuit breaker (MCB) in a dwelling board protects the cable and equipment against overload and short circuit. Search results often show universal tables “B for homes, C for workshops, D for motors”. Those tables are not a requirement of LBN 261-15 and they do not replace a design. This guide explains the curve, rated current and breaking capacity, and which inputs you need before you order a device. This is information, not a design. Installations are designed, installed and tested by certified specialists. Labels: LBN — mandatory, standard — an applicable standard, recommendation..

Surge protection in the distribution board
Overvoltage reaches a board from a nearby or line lightning strike and from switching in the network. It lasts microseconds but can damage boiler controls, a heat pump, a router or a TV. A surge protective device (SPD, "surge arrester") diverts this impulse to earth. This guide explains how to choose the SPD type and scheme and what to check in the specification. This article is not a connection guide. An SPD is installed by an electrician according to the design and the manufacturer's instructions. What LBN 261-15 says Point 25.4: protection against lightning current and overvoltage is one ..

Distribution board bill of materials
The distribution board (consumer unit, fuse board) is where the whole installation meets: the incomer, protection, circuits, neutral and protective conductors. A specification error usually means one of three things: the enclosure is too small, an item is forgotten (busbar, N/PE terminals, surge protection), or the devices are not compatible. This guide helps you compile a complete bill of materials and check it before ordering. This is not a board design method. Protective device ratings, conductor sizes and selectivity are set by the designer. LBN 261-15 point 55: electrical installation is ..

Residual current protection under LBN 261-15
Residual current protection (RCD, RCCB, RCBO) is one of the few electrical installation topics where the Latvian building code is very specific. Amendments to LBN 261-15 came into force in July 2025, and many websites still carry old or simplified information. This guide covers three things: what the regulation requires, what standards and manufacturers recommend, and how to turn it into a list of devices. Important: this is information, not a design. Electrical installations are designed, installed and tested by certified specialists. We use three labels: LBN — mandatory requirement, standard..

RCD type AC, A, F or B
On an RCD housing next to 30 mA or 300 mA there is a small symbol or letter: AC, A, F or B. It is not a price tier or a quality class. The type determines which residual current waveform the device can detect. If the device cannot detect it, it may fail to trip when leakage occurs. That is why point 28.3 of LBN 261-15 requires choosing the device class by the type of connected equipment. Where residual current protection is mandatory and what sensitivity is needed is covered in the main article residual current protection under LBN 261-15. Here — only types. The four types in brief Classifica..
