How to choose safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection
Protective gear is chosen by what the job can send into the eyes, hands, ears or airways. The catalogue does not have one “universal kit”.
The examples are Delta Plus products from safety glasses, work gloves, cut-resistant gloves, earmuffs, respirators and helmets. This is not a legal explanation and it does not replace an employer’s instruction. It helps you read the card.
Eyes
Safety glasses are not one lens for everyone.
- Brava2 with clear lenses — the card lists a polycarbonate frame and lenses, soft temples, a polycarbonate nose piece and side shields. It says they are comfortable to use with a helmet and earmuffs. UV400 is not in this particular description.
- Brava2 with yellow lenses — the card lists a weight of 25 g, UV protection (UV400) and a scratch-resistant coating, plus side shields and use with a helmet and hearing protection.
- Meia clear — the name has AR-UV400, and the description has a single polycarbonate lens and the reference EN166:2001.
A clear lens and a tinted lens are different products. If the card does not say which rooms the tint is for, that is not assumed from the name alone. Kilimanjaro has “over-glasses” in the name — that is a separate product if you need a pair over your own glasses. The description is not extended here beyond the name.
Hands
In the glove section the coating matches the environment, not “one size”.
- Gloves with a nitrile coating — the card says waterproof, suitable for oily and greasy environments, a cotton liner and a full nitrile coating.
- Cut-resistant gloves, class 3 — the name has class 3 and size 9. The description has a seamless knit and a PU coating on the palm and fingertips. Other cut-standard letters are not in this description, so they are not added here.
- Goatskin leather gloves are in the same work gloves section in separate sizes. They are not the same as a cut-resistant knit.
For oily work and cutting work the cards name different coatings. The size is in the product name (for example 9 or 10) — it cannot be replaced with “universal”.
Hearing
Interlagos earmuffs — the name has SNR 33 dB. The description lists ABS cups, foam pads and an adjustable POM headband. The other product, Interlagos for a helmet, also has SNR 33 dB in the name and a note that it is for a helmet. Earplugs are not linked here if that section has no products.
The SNR figure has to be compared with the noise of the specific job. 33 dB on the card is not a promise that any machine becomes quiet. Loudness is not stated on these tool cards for a saw or a drill.
Breathing and the head
Disposable FFP2 masks, 10 pcs — the description lists non-woven fibre, category FFP2, an adjustable nose clip and the marking FFP2 NR D. The name says they are disposable. A reuse regime is not inferred from this card.
Filter cartridges for a half mask are a different product from a disposable mask. If a card says “cartridges” for a half mask, that is not a substitute for the same FFP2 pack.
White ZIRCON helmet is in helmets. Some other helmets have electrical resistance in the name, for example BASEBALL models. Those markings are not copied from one helmet to another. The Brava2 cards say the glasses can be used with a helmet — that is about the glasses, not about every helmet fitting every job.
Where the numbers come from
UV400, 25 g, EN166:2001, SNR 33 dB, FFP2 NR D, class 3 and the nitrile use come from the specific cards, not from a neighbouring model. Before you buy, compare the size and whether the description mentions your job: oil, cutting, dust or impact. Tool choice stays in its own guides — a drill and a saw for wood.
